Questions Answered: Teen Vogue Fashion U

I got a lot of questions from those of you attending Teen Vogue's Fashion U this year, and here's what I had wanted to tell you:

firstly, I have never attended (though I'd love to be a panelist there one day) Fashion U.
please don't waltz in there hoping it's your "gateway into the industry"
it's a mock-university setup because you're there to maybe truth about enzyte learn something you didn't know, and maybe see something you wouldn't have seen, but not get a job.
instead of focusing your attentions on the big names/editors, you should take it as an opportunity to make some connections and have fun with your peers - they're the ones who may be getting you that job in the future!
The way I see it, Fashion U is more of a money-making plot than anything substantial in term of "experience" but that's not to say you won't meet some great people and have a good time.
If you can pay your way to NY, I think it's a cool opportunity, and Teen Vogue DOES care about you getting your time/moneys worth.
If you, like me, probably can't afford it - you're not going to be behind in anything. Really.
The emails I got about 'making an impression on the editors' via a standout wardrobe and such led me to believe some of you still think this industry is a lot easier than it is, and I don't want you to be disappointed.
I love Teen Vogue SO much. Really, I do. They've been there for me since Day 1, and TV was my first foray into this industry almost... 6 years ago now. Looks like I'm due for a retrospective post soon.
Unfortunately, I didn't get arund to posting this before the event. So, now that it's over... you tell me: how was it? worth it?

PS - I also still have a video coming, as soon as I get back to NY (in LA right now) and can borrow a laptop that doesn't make an awful broken fan noise :/

Sharing the Wealth: Shop Therapy Giveaway.

Couldn't let the day go by without telling you guys about this giveaway. Most of because I want it pretty badly and can't have it since I work there. I'm not even a handbag girl, but this bag always looks SO functional yet stylish, and always out of my price range lol.

All you have to do is add Pronto to your blogroll and/or become a fan on facebook. It's really too easy not to.

Details at the source.

Ready, set, vote. (Please.)

Another reason Planet and I have been getting on so well is our shared political values ("To the left, to the left," duh).

Thursday afternoon I stopped by to support Planet Publisher/Creative Director Derek Peck and my President, Barack Obama. Everyone's got their political shirt, but I didn't until now, and this one spoke to me. I've NEVER identified with anyone in politics until Barack Obama, and to hear such a diverse group of people resonate the same sentiment speaks so much to the leadership qualities of this man.

PLEASE exercise your right to vote. Or else please don't complain when shit gets really really bad.

Get your shirt here - I'll be wearing mine long after we win on election day.

PS - Planet is available digitally now! And my NINE first pieces for Planet will be out next month!!! I'll keep you posted.

What we do.

Jackie (my friend, Shop Therapy cohort, and SomeNotesonNapkins blogger) shouts me out in this awesome interview for PR Couture.

It's a really great interview and gives some great insight into our little-big world of Fashion Social Media. Listen up.

EDIT: k, if that embed didn't work (Windows only maybe?) You can listen to the interview HERE :)

Nouveau Witch for Fall 08

It's not just a Halloween thing - it's fashion's homage to the Craft-watching, spell-casting, potion-making, Wicca-and-Ouji-experimenting, light-as-a-feather-stiff-as-a-board, 10 year old in us all.

"After this, I shall think nothing of tumbling down stairs." Alice

Hey! I've been absent while trying to sort out my brain in a "transitional period," but realized that's just never going to happen... That said, I'm back to blogging (again).

lots of thoughts, video, rambling, fashion, etc. to come. no, really.

I'll video blog again soon, so if you have any questions (random, relevant, whatev) feel free to ask and I'll answer then. If not, I'll think of something... Thanks for bearing with me :)

Today at Pronto: Fashion Flashcards

That 9-5 I was talking about is at new social shopping website Pronto.com where I work alongside Social Media Manager Jackie (from another awesome blog, Some Notes on Napkins - love her!). I'm one of the lucky ones, I really enjoy all of my jobs!!

We just soft-launched the new blog Shop Therapy last week, and there's already some great stuff up. Check it out, let us know what you think. Today I started work on our "Fashion Flashcard" series. I think it's fun, so I'll probably re-post them here too.

So, Join Pronto (it's like Kaboodle, but different) and add me, or just check out my wishlists ;)

My Pronto Page/Wishlist

xo J

PS - Also, did a "Luella for Less" post today!

Hard Work Leads to Hard Copy

Confession: I've been witholding some information. Remember those pitches? They went well ;)

How things progressed after the pitches:
another meeting to discuss/set things in stone
received my assignments (= which pitches got picked up, word count, and deadline)
contacting the designers/people to be featured
So now I'm working hard to meet those deadlines, working my 9-5, and Fashionista in between. Busy -- the usual.

This looks like the start of a lasting relationship, and I'm VERY excited to be a part of a magazine that I admire for its content and integrity. I've been a READER for a while now and I'm pumped to be a part of it!!

I highly suggest you subscribe - especially if you enjoyed that Santogold snippet or just want to support me. You'll love the mag. Promise.

So, while I can look forward to taking the "aspiring" out of my writer title and adding more freelance work to the res, I still have a lot more work before I reach my goals - but cheers to an (almost) check off my list (well, I won't believe it til it's published)!

xo Jazzi

PS - I wonder if I'll get to have one of those little contributor pictures... that'd be sweet!
